With our Romans series starting this Sunday I thought that I would try something that has been in my mind for some time. I have been asked by some of you how it is that I can pull so much out of just a few verses every Sunday, and my response is usually, "You could do that too!" which is then typically followed with some sort of face of disbelief. What I have realized over the years, even before becoming a pastor, is that many people have very little understanding on what it even looks like to study scripture. They have some idea, but when it comes down to actually studying, they feel like nothing ever comes from it. I am hoping that these posts would help with overcoming that.
Now, I don't claim to know everything about Bible study and I was reluctant to even move forward with these posts because I don't want people to assume that I am in any way trying to draw attention to myself. Nothing could be further from the truth. I want people to love God and his word. I want people to see that Bible study is not only for those of utmost intelligence. My hope with these blog posts/videos is that you would get a taste for how wonderful it is to open up the Bible and dig into it like a miner searching desperately for gold and then being filled with joy when he finds it. There is more gold to dig for in the Bible than we can possibly imagine, and truth be told we will never get to the bottom of it on this side of eternity. But, that doesn't mean that we shouldn't try! These videos are just one way that I thought I could support and inform that digging.
The videos will be roughly 15 minutes and will be posted on this blog throughout the week. I hope that they would be a useful tool in helping you study Romans (and all scripture) with confidence in God is with you in your study and has much to reveal to you!
You can watch the first video below which looks at the first part of Romans 1:1-7.
One additional resource that could be of value to you for Bible study is the Look at the Book series that John Piper has put together at the Desiring God website. You can find that resource here: http://www.desiringgod.org/labs
